Britain’s defence ministry has said there was “no evidence” to support allegations that a land mine blast earlier this month in Afghanistan that killed a British soldier was caused by a downdraft from a Chinook helicopter. The Sun tabloid reported on Monday that Corporal Mark Wright, who was killed by a land mine blast on September 6, had called for a small helicopter to rescue his 12-man patrol from a minefield where they were trapped, citing one of the members of Wright’s Parachute Regiment.
