The New York Times published an editorial, in which it called Pope Benedict XVI’s latest remarks about Islam “tragic and dangerous” and urged him to apologize. Quoting a 14th-century Byzantine emperor on the Prophet Mohammed, founder of the Muslim faith, the head of the Roman Catholic Church said: “He said, I quote, ‘Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'” The Times recalled that this was “not the first time the pope has fomented discord between Christians and Muslims.” Full Story
