Three people were killed in Japan’s southern Ryukyu island chain Saturday as a powerful typhoon slowly approached Kyushu in southwestern Japan. Typhoon Shanshan, packing winds of up to 115 mph near its center, could make landfall on the southernmost main island Sunday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
