France and Iran stepped into the diplomatic vacuum in Lebanon on Monday with visits to Beirut by their foreign ministers after Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice canceled her trip there. The French foreign minister, Philippe Douste-Blazy, reiterated his calls for an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah. Mr. Douste-Blazy, who later met with Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and other officials in the Lebanese capital on Monday, said Iran could play an important role in resolving the crisis. Full Story
