Somalia’s Islamic militia battled a pocket of resistance in the capital Monday, pounding Mogadishu with machine-gun fire and rocket-propelled grenades a day after 20 people were killed in bloody fighting. Seven people were killed Monday and the death toll was expected to rise, hospitals said. The Islamic fighters who wrested Mogadishu from warlords last month were fighting supporters of Abdi Awale Qaybdiid, who refused to disarm after the U.S.-backed secular alliance lost its battle for control of the capital.
