A deadline set by Palestinian militant groups holding an Israeli soldier captive has passed without any change in the uneasy standoff. Israeli Cpl. Gilad Shalit was kidnapped on June 25 in southern Israel by three militant groups that demanded Israel start releasing Palestinian prisoners by 6 a.m. Tuesday (11 p.m. ET Monday) or suffer the consequences.
