The Supreme Court said it “accepts that Slobodan Milosevic gave an order” for the murder of Ivan Stambolic, his mentor and predecessor as Yugoslavia’s president, whose ouster he had engineered, because he was a political threat to his hold on power. The killing in 2000 killing was carried out by eight secret policemen, who were found guilty last year and also convicted of the attempted murder earlier in 2000 of the opposition leader Vuk Draskovic, who is now Serbia’s foreign minister.
