Philippine police have been placed on red alert in the capital Manila after President Gloria Arroyo was hospitalized overnight for stomach troubles, officials said. Capital police chief Vidal Querol said Friday that the heightened security level was a precautionary move aimed at discouraging anyone from taking advantage of Arroyo’s hospitalization for political gain.
