Hundreds of protestors have demanded the resignation of embattled East Timor Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri as the nation’s prosecutor-general issued an arrest warrant for the former interior minister. The peaceful protest outside the government palace and the issuing of the warrant comes as East Timor seeks to end weeks of crisis that began with Alkatiri sacking some 600 soldiers in March. Ex-minister Rogerio Lobato, who was effectively fired on May 30, faces accusations that he armed civilians as the country last month descended into chaos which resulted in the deaths of at least 21 people.
