Hardline Muslim separatists have called a one-day strike in the Kashmir Valley for Friday to protest the arrest of their leader, a senior separatist said. Syed Ali Geelani was arrested by police on Wednesday in the southern town of Poonch where he was to address a series of separatist rallies. Police said Geelani, who heads the hardline faction of the region’s main separatist alliance, the Hurriyat Conference, was wanted in the area for inciting communal tension in 2001. Full Story
