The U.N. humanitarian chief said Wednesday he is heading to Sudan’s western Darfur region to draw attention to the desperate need for money to help millions of people in the conflict-wracked area. Jan Egeland, the U.N. undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator, was barred from visiting Darfur and Sudan’s capital of Khartoum in April when the Sudanese government refused landing permission for his plane after it gave him a visa.
