The Philippine Coastguard, in coordination with the Police Maritime Command (Maricom) and Port Police, strengthened security measures at the local wharf to avert the al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf plans to bomb vessels in the southern port city. Third Coastguard District chief-of-staff Christopher Villacorte said the Abu Sayyaf has threatened to bomb two vessels of a shipping firm if its managements continue to refuse to give in to their demands.
