Police shot and killed nine Maoist rebels, including six women, when the guerrillas attacked a patrol in southern India, officials said. Police said it was the largest number of Maoist rebels killed in a single incident this year and said the dead may include some senior Maoist leaders. The gunbattle took place in the forests of Kadapa district, some 500 kilometers (300 miles) south-east of Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh state. Full Story
