Liberians Debate Need for War Crimes Court
The sight of their former president standing before an international war crimes court in neighboring Sierra Leone has revived a debate among Liberians about how best to confront their own history of atrocities. Former President Charles Taylor pleaded not guilty earlier this week to charges that included murder, sexual slavery and sending children into combat, stemming from his alleged backing of rebels during Sierra Leone’s 1991-2002 civil war.
