Serious security threats from European far-right groups are dogging the World Soccer Championship in Germany less than three months from its opening, reported Italy’s La Repubblica and Germany’s Der Tagesspiegel and Der Spiegel. The two dailies reported that neo-Nazi groups from across Europe in March convened in a secret meeting in the Austrian town of Braunau, birthplace of Adolf Hitler. The meeting planned violent actions to turn the world-renowned athletic event into a launching pad for fascist actions against Muslims immigrants and raise the public profile of the neo-fascist movement.
