Lukashenko’s Opponents Call for Protests
Opponents of President Alexander Lukashenko promised further protests Monday against the presidential election in Belarus after results showed the authoritarian incumbent winning a third term by an overwhelming margin. Lukashenko’s main rival, Alexander Milinkevich, called the ballot count “monstrously inflated” and denounced him as an “illegal, illegitimate president.” “In Belarus, we did not have an election but an unconstitutional seizure of power,” Milinkevich said.
