EU won’t go soft on Hamas over aid

The European Union vowed on Friday not to go soft on demands that Hamas recognize Israel and renounce violence as its foreign ministers met to study how to maintain much-needed Palestinian aid. The 25-nation bloc has kept up short-term aid but officials warn funding could be jeopardized unless Hamas, which is on an EU list of terrorist groups and whose charter commits it to the destruction of Israel, moderates its stance.
