Riot police have clashed with protestors in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, during a strike called by the opposition Awami League. At least 20 people are reported to have been injured and a number of people were arrested. The strike shut many businesses and schools and clashes were also reported in Cox’s Bazaar and other towns. Awami League leader, Sheikh Hasina, is trying to force Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, to call early elections. The opposition has accused the government of being corrupt and inefficient in running the administration. But Mrs Zia has denied the charges and pledged to remain in power till the end of her five-year term in October. Full Story
