A fishing boat laden with explosives blew up Saturday off the northwest coast of Sri Lanka after a naval vessel tried to intercept and search it, the Sri Lankan Navy said. A government statement said it was believed that the boat was carrying weapons to territory controlled by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, but stopped short of specifically accusing the rebels of being involved in the incident.
