Philippines troops have killed at least 18 communist rebels in the country’s north, after one of the biggest clashes in recent months. Troops battled fighters from the New People’s Army (NPA) near the town of Santa Ignacia, 150km (90 miles) north of Manila, an army spokesman said. An army battalion surrounded the rebels and sparked a gun battle that lasted for several hours, he said. Full Story
