British troops said they were holding five members of the Iraqi police force in the southern city of Basra in connection with allegations of widespread corruption. Major Peter Cripps, a spokesman for the British military, said 14 people had been arrested on Tuesday “as part of a broader operation to do with corruption in the police,” and that nine were released on Wednesday.
