The Indian army is keeping a close watch on Maoist rebels operating in the country’s eastern, central and southern states, India’s army chief says. But Gen Joginder Jaswant Singh told the BBC that his troops should ideally never be deployed to fight the Maoists. He said operations against Maoists should be handled by the state police forces and the army was advising the government on this. Full Story
