Daunting technical and political hurdles have dogged Canada’s efforts to draft and share reliable lists of suspected terrorists, newly obtained records show. The challenges include differences of opinion on who’s actually a security threat and making the computer systems of various agencies communicate with one another. While some strides have been made, the security project will be a major preoccupation in 2006 – two years after signficant problems were first publicly documented. “That’s ongoing,” said Simone McAndrew, a spokeswoman for the Public Safety Department. “It continues to be a priority.”Full Story
