Italian Agency Investigating Berlusconi

Italy’s antitrust authority said Thursday it has opened an investigation to determine whether Premier Silvio Berlusconi violated conflict of interest rules when his government approved subsidies to Italians who buy digital-television decoders. Italy has paid $236.44 million since 2004 to buyers of digital decoders in a bid to promote digital TV, a measure that critics said favors Berlusconi’s television company Mediaset SPA.
