Terror suspects in Spain plotted “something big” for Christmas
Four Algerians imprisoned without bail here Tuesday on terrorism charges “intended to do something big in Madrid” this Christmas season, possibly at a crowded shopping mall or at this capital’s Barajas international airport, judiciary sources said. The sources described the plans as “incipient,” saying specific targets had not yet been established when the four were arrested along with seven others last week in several Spanish cities. The idea of staging a large-scale attack was mentioned in telephone conversations subjected to wiretaps, and was also acknowledged by at least one of the suspects during police questioning, the sources said.
