When is it worth dying for a cause? Ten years on from the executions of the Ogoni Nine, little has changed for the people of the oil rich areas of Nigeria. Prominent among the dead was the writer, Ken Saro-Wiwa, who had been campaigning against environmental damage and was in favour of a more equitable share of oil riches. Former South African president Nelson Mandela famously said: “I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society.” “It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve.
