Police in Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, say they have found a jacket packed with explosives, similar to ones used in suicide attacks by the Tamil Tigers. The jacket, with C-4 explosive and detonators, was found after a tip-off. The find came as a suspected Tiger rebel surrendered to the US embassy. It is not known if the two are connected. Presidential elections are to be held on 17 November and the country has a history of violent attacks during election campaigns. The Tamil Tigers have been fighting for a separate homeland in the north and east for more than two decades, although a ceasefire has been in place since February 2002. Full Story
