One of France’s former top diplomats has been taken into custody as part of an investigation into corruption in the UN’s oil-for-food programme in Iraq. Jean-Bernard Merimee, the French ambassador to the United Nations from 1991 to 1995, was detained on Monday, on the orders of a French judge. Full Story
