Opponents of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo petitioned the Supreme Court on Friday to nullify the decision by the lower house of Congress to throw out impeachment complaints against her. Arroyo survived an impeachment vote on September 6 because of the numerical strength of her allies, averting a Senate trial that would have closely examined the allegations that she cheated her way to a fresh term in last year’s presidential election.
