Police occupied a seaside slum in violent Rio de Janeiro on Thursday after mounting a raid to stop gunfights between drug gangs near an area popular with tourists. Two suspected traffickers were killed in the Wednesday night raid on Vidigal in which gangsters fought back with grenades and rifle fire, a police spokeswoman said.
