A car has exploded in southern Afghanistan, killing two suspected suicide bombers and injuring four passers-by, Afghan officials say. The blast took place in Helmand province on a road often used by Afghan and US-led coalition forces. “It seems their aim was to carry out a suicide attack on the Americans but it went off early,” a spokesman for the provincial governor told journalists. Violence has increased ahead of the 18 September parliamentary elections. Security has been stepped up ahead of the elections which are opposed by the Taleban and al-Qaeda militants. Full Story
