Australian Prime Minister John Howard will meet 14 Islam leaders for the first time tomorrow to discuss a plan to protect Australia against terrorism. Howard, 66, said train bombings in London on July 7 and 21, highlighted the need to “remain vigilant.” “The community has an important role to play in protecting our country and its people against terrorism,” Howard said in an e-mailed transcript. “It will focus on the identification of strategies to promote commitment to shared values and examine how Islamic leaders can assist in eliminating intolerance and the promotion of violence in this country.” Full Story
