Government forces pursuing Abu Sayyaf bandits in Maguindanao were given another 72 hours to launch their offensive against the bandit group without jeopardizing the Mindanao peace process. The government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s (MILF) Ad Hoc Joint Action Group (Ahjag) gave the 72-hour extension to enable the soldiers to capture dead or alive Khadaffy Janjalani and his followers. Lawyer Abdul Dataya, MILF-Adjag chair, said the MILF and the government peace panels agreed to the extension to give government soldiers enough time to pursue the Abu Sayyaf leader and his men.
