Afghan, U.S. forces kill 20 militants

KABUL (Reuters) – Afghan army and U.S.-led forces killed 20 Taliban and Islamist fighters in the southeast of the country in the latest wave of violence ahead of parliamentary polls in September, an Afghan defense spokesman said on Sunday.

Dozens have been killed in the past weeks as Taliban insurgents and their Islamist allies have stepped up attacks to disrupt the Sept. 18 vote. Full Story
