Anti-capitalist protests have brought the centre of Edinburgh to a standstill after clashes with police. The demonstrators descended on the Scottish capital ahead of the G8 summit, which begins on Wednesday. Police in full riot gear diverted the protesters away from Edinburgh’s financial district, but scuffles broke out when some of the demonstrators tried to break through the police cordon.
