Hizbullah’s Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said his party supports President Emile Lahoud serving out the remainder of his term, despite opposition calls to cut short his mandate. Speaking during a news conference late last night, Qassem said Hizbullah “will not support calls to cut short Lahoud’s presidential term.” Lahoud, seen by the opposition as a pro-Syrian figure, had his six-year term extended for a further three years in 2004.
