North Korea appears to be on an unpredictable “escalatory ladder” in its pursuit of nuclear weapons and US officials are concerned because it has made good on threats in the past, a senior US defense official said. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there was no new information to suggest North Korea was preparing to test a nuclear weapon.
