Australians in East Timor are being warned of a possible terrorist attack in the capital, Dili, today. In a new travel warning, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) says it has received information of a possible attack or bombing at East Timor’s government buildings in Dili on May 11 and Australians should avoid those areas. “Australians in East Timor are advised to exercise extreme caution,” the warning says. “The risk of terrorist attack in East Timor remains, particularly in areas frequented by foreigners. “An attack could occur at any time, anywhere in East Timor and could be directed against any locations known to be frequented by foreigners. Examples of possible terrorist targets include hotels, clubs, restaurants, bars, embassies, schools, churches and other places of worship, shops, outdoor recreation events, tourist areas and transport hubs or identifiably western businesses and interests.
