AUSTRALIA is still in the terrorists’ sights and people should not be complacent, Attorney-General Philip Ruddock has warned. Mr Ruddock, who will address a major security in government conference in Canberra, said he believed Australians were thinking nothing had happened for some time so maybe everything was alright. He said major concerns continued to relate to organisations such as al-Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiah which had a proven capacity to threaten Australia and Australian interests. “The terrorist threat today is as real as it has ever been,” he told ABC Radio. “We remain a target – the Bali bombings, the Marriott Hotel bombings, the bombing of the Australian embassy in Jakarta really remind us that we have been targeted overseas and we need to be vigilant against the possibility of attack here in Australia.
