“WE’RE prepared to meet his threats.” This was the response of Philippine National Police Director General Arturo Lomibao to the threats of retaliation by Abu Sayyaf leader Khadaffy Janjalani for the death of his comrades in Taguig City last month. “Pasensiya din. (We’re sorry, too). We’ll just do our job (if we get him first),” Lomibao told the Inquirer. Janjalani, who was earlier reported killed during a military air strike last year, surfaced and vowed to avenge the death of 22 detainees, mostly Abu Sayyaf members, who had seized control of a Bicutan jail in an attempt to escape on March 15. Saying the blood of the mujahideen (Islamic warrior) was not free, Janjalani had warned Lomibao the Muslim extremist group would launch strikes to avenge the deaths of the Muslim detainees.
