Soldiers and police maintained a high alert in Metro Manila in the face of a new security threat: terrorists crashing vehicles laden with explosives into intended targets. The Armed Forces and the Philippine National Police have been on heightened alert since last week in the wake of reports the Abu Sayyaf and the Jemaah Islamiyah were plotting to attack churches, holiday resorts and other crowded places during the Easter break. On Saturday police detonated a small bomb—which they said was apparently not the handiwork of terrorists—outside the Spanish Embassy in ACT Tower Building on Buendia Avenue, Makati City.
