Disaster preparedness doesn’t just happen. It demands preparation, as the term implies. The chaotic scene that played out at the Ukiah Valley Medical Center Thursday morning wasn’t real, but the stagecraft served a purpose. “For us to stay on top of things, we like to do this usually about once a quarter,” said Jarrod McNaughton, UVMC’s administrative director of marketing and development. “We had student actors out from the college, so it was a lot of fun having them be our patients.” Hospital personnel created a “code black” situation, which puts everyone on site in disaster mode.
