Fifteen alleged members of an al-Qaida-linked group went on trial Monday in southern Kazakhstan on charges of terrorism and inciting religious hatred, officials said. The defendants in the ex-Soviet republic’s first terrorism trial are alleged to be members of the Jamoat Mujahedeen, or Community of Holy Warriors, blamed for last year’s attacks in neighboring Uzbekistan that killed dozens of people, said the Zhambul regional security department.
