Emergency response personnel from organizations throughout Cherokee County responded to a disaster drill at the post office Tuesday with coordination and cooperation, officials said. “We have been working on this drill for about two months,” said acting fire chief Jay Hooker. “There are personnel from the (Jacksonville) police department and fire department, EMS, (Cherokee County) Sheriff’s Department, (Department of Public Safety), both East Texas Medical Center and Trinity Mother Frances, Red Cross, the Cherokee County Health Department, Cherokee County Amateur Radio Association and even students from Jacksonville High School out here.” The drill began just after 10 a.m. when the fire department and other emergency personnel responded to reports of an unidentified substance at the “post office.” Full Story
