If a disaster ever turns their world upside down, Dan and Roberta Vujcich will reach for their gloves and face masks. The Antioch couple capped off a six-week course in disaster preparedness Saturday with a drill during which they put out a fire and rescued victims trapped under debris. “We thought we were prepared until we went into this,” said Dan, a 66-year-old retired bank employee who signed up with his wife for the free classes after hearing about the opportunity from his Neighborhood Watch group. “If something does happen at least there are people who know how to take care of the situation,” he said.
