Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas promised Tuesday to halt attacks on each other’s people, expressing optimism that renewed relations offered a chance to end a devastating four-year cycle of suicide bombings and military assaults.
