Liberia’s Presidential Polls Set for Oct.
Presidential elections in newly peaceful Liberia will take place Oct. 11, the national electoral body announced. The election will mark the end of a two-year transition, led by Gyude Bryant, after two main rebel groups, West African peace forces and international pressure routed warlord Charles Taylor from power. National Elections Commission Chairman Frances Johnson-Morris told reporters on Monday that voter registration would run from April 25 to May 21. At least 41 candidates are hoping to contest the election, including former soccer legend and FIFA player of the year George Weah. Full Story
