United Nations security officials have declared a state of “heightened awareness” for U.N. relief workers in Indonesia pending investigation of a warning issued by the Danish Foreign Ministry, a spokeswoman said Monday. “The U.N. security team in Banda Aceh has today instructed all U.N. staff to observe a heightened awareness and take all security precautions necessary,” said Christian Berthiaume, Geneva spokeswoman for the United Nations’ World Food Program. “WFP has advised its staff accordingly.” Berthiaume said U.N. officials had yet to receive confirmed reports of a possible terrorist attack against its staff of other humanitarian operations in Aceh Province, Indonesia.
