The government called on Sinn Féin yesterday to respond to last month’s £26.5m bank robbery by the IRA, or risk sanctions. Paul Murphy, the Northern Ireland secretary, told the Commons that the robbery and the “appalling” kidnapping of Northern Bank staff families had “deeply damaged” efforts to restore the power-sharing executive. But he vowed not to abandon the “ultimate goal” of an inclusive government featuring Sinn Féin. This required its commitment to end all the IRA’s illegal activity. Full Story
