A Pakistani who escaped from military detention after being convicted of involvement in an attempt to assassinate President Pervez Musharraf held a junior rank in the air force, a spokesman said on Wednesday. Mushtaq Ahmed broke out of a bathroom at the air force detention centre in the garrison city of Rawalpindi late last month after being sentenced to death for his role in an attempt to kill Musharraf in the city that adjoins Islamabad on Dec. 14, 2003. “He was a junior-level non-commissioned employee,” said Air Commodore Sarfraz Ahmed, spokesmen for the Pakistan Air Force. “Efforts have been launched to catch him.” Ahmed declined to provide further details.
